A priceless sapphire. A perfect fake. Eight weeks to find out who made the swap.
Real reading and reasoning, typed answers, a few tricky weeks.
Every box and envelope, the case portal for one detective login, and the parent view.
Box 1 ships first; the rest follows your detective's progress.
The case
On the night of the Ridgemont Museum's 100th-anniversary gala, someone swapped the famous Blue Comet Sapphire for a flawless replica. The museum was locked. The alarms stayed quiet. Whoever did it had a key card, a plan, and a head start.
Your detective joins the Ridgemont Police Department's Detective Bureau with a real credential card and a login to the department's records computer. Evidence arrives by mail in sealed bags. Badge logs, security-camera stills, interviews and lab reports wait on screen. Every week brings one question to answer, and every answer has to be proven.
Spoiler-free: everything on this page is safe for your detective to read.
What arrives
Box 1 ships when you order. Every delivery after that is triggered by your detective's progress, so nothing arrives before they're ready for it.
a detective credential card, a welcome letter from the Chief, and four bagged pieces of evidence from the museum
lab paperwork and a paper trail worth reading twice
a UV light and samples for the department lab
one small item that opens a new line of inquiry
a keepsake from the case, a detective badge pin, the Chief's commendation, and a sealed envelope for later

The portal
A dark, official records terminal: badge logs, the camera archive, interviews, the lab and the warrant desk. Each week's report is checked the moment it's filed.
It is a real investigation for confident readers aged about 9 to 13. Each week asks one clear question. If a report misses, the computer says what to look at again, and the parent view has a ladder of hints that stop short of the answer.
Most weeks take two to three sessions of 30 to 45 minutes, split between handling the physical evidence and searching the records computer. Nothing runs on a timer.
Yes. One kit comes with one detective login, and it works well for two or three kids investigating together. Buy a second kit if each child wants their own credential and progress.
No. It is a jewel theft with no violence and no one gets hurt. The tone is a calm, official police file.
A phone, tablet or computer with a web browser, a pencil, and somewhere safe to keep the evidence. The UV light and forensics items are included.
